I just attended the extremely well (un)organised Canberra Barcamp 2012 (http://barcampcanberra.org/).
Things that I took home:
-
make, hack, void is an awesome community hackerspace in Downer http://www.makehackvoid.com/
-
you can build a robotic bubble machine (bubblebot) http://www.instructables.com/id/Bubblebot-Gigantic-Bubble-Generator/
-
our team lost the Tim Tam design challenge, but we had a blast doing it!
-
counterpointy (By Ben Williamson) is a great online implementation of collaborative argument mapping software (http://www.counterpointy.org)
-
hookers in Vegas use twitter (who would have thought!) http://www.twittamentary.com/
Things to note:
-
Excellent committee (many of the same people who helped organise tedx canberra)
-
Amazing sponsorship this year (coffee, lunch and venue all provided for free)
-
Light hearted and fun CupcakeCamp (which catered for dessert/afternoon tea). I love the idea of a "bring a plate" event.
-
Healthy options such as fresh fruit and water
-
It would have been nice to see twitter updates for upcoming sessions (like at the first Canberra barcamp)
PhotoCamp 2012
In other news, I would really like to help set up a Canberra Photocamp later in the year.
I have created the following Google+ page to kick off initial discussion. Please add photocamp canberra 2012 to your circles if you would be interested in helping out with the event (we will set up a more public page closer to the event).
https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/118204861407171159103/118204861407171159103/posts
I think it would be great to have sessions on:
-
lighting techniques (studio vs strobist)
-
film photography (medium format, large format etc)
-
nature photography
-
macro photography
-
how to set up a studio
-
how to run a business
-
wedding photography
-
portrait photography
-
product photography
-
post production (photoshop, filters, HDR)
-
camera gear (show and tell)
-
printing
-
legal issues (model release forms, use of a location, copyright)
-
we could even kick the day off (or finish it) with a photowalk.
-
we could also engage with models, make up artists, hair stylists etc.
-
then there is the world of video to explore
" PhotoCamp Canberra is a free "unconference" for those people who are interested in any and all aspects of photography and cinematography. PhotoCamp is for everyone: newbies, professionals, teachers, everyone is welcome!
PhotoCamp is about creating an affordable (free) event with themes surrounding photography and cinematography promoting education and community involvement throughout these mediums. An unconference is a small conference where the content is provided by the attendees!
Each conference will have only a basic structure up until it starts. People are asked to contribute sessions that they want to present or hear about. Those sessions are picked up by someone with experience in that field and they present it.
A session is between 5 and 30 minutes and can cover any topic related to photography and cinematography! "
